Geography, history, Catholicism, travel, adventure, and fun. Homeschooling gives us the freedom to learn about Vermont history and geography in a way that most people do not have the time for. Most people only play tourist in their hometown or state when friends and family come to visit. We are trying to discover the historical, the interesting, the beautiful, and the sacred as we go.
Vermont has 251 municipalities, hence the name of the organization, and many of them have Catholic Churches, cemeteries, or other Catholic sites to visit. We are checking them off the list one by one. There are churches that are open that we can explore, closed ones that we can only visit from the outside, and some that are merely a foundation left in the ground, or completely gone with only a cemetery left behind. They are all beautiful in their own way. Some towns may not have a Catholic presence, but we’re going to visit other historical or interesting sites in those towns. Some towns are so small that visiting the town hall or post office is our best option.
I hope that by showcasing our travels throughout our home state of Vermont, that we can inspire other families to do the same in their home states too!
